About Murry

Murry was born and raised in Prince George. He graduated from Prince George Secondary in 1969.

He has devoted over 35 years to the community issues and social justice work of this region. He is concerned about the health and well-being of all Prince George residents.

He has held a number of positions throughout his career. His introduction to the social service and health field was in his early 20's when he coordinated summer youth hostels. He's been the Executive Director of the Prince George Crisis Centre, Executive Director of the United Way of Prince George and district for 13 years, and has spent the last 13.5 years as the Executive Director of the Central Interior Native Health Society.

His entry into the world of fundraising started with producing concerts featuring local artists to raise funds for third world development for such charities as UNICEF and the International Red cross. He was a singer in local country dance bands and folk groups from his mid teens through his early 30's. Along with a team, produced the Opening Ceremonies of the 1990 Summer Games here in Prince George.

In addition to his passion for social justice he is very interested in heritage and culture. A supporter of performing and visual arts, local and regional writers and poets and as the Chair of the Prince George Heritage Commission and Chair of the Barkerville Heritage Trust has proven his commitment to the preservation of history and heritage of the area.

Several years ago he was a province of BC Representative on the National Voluntary Sector Initiative. It was a federal government initiative to examine the contribution made to Canadian society by the voluntary sector and to explore ways to sustain the work done by volunteer organizations in Canada. He currently sits on the Province of BC/Non-profit Sector Initiative whose goal is to explore ways to improve the relationship between the Province of British Columbia and the non-profit sector.

Murry and his partner share the joy of 5 children, their partners and a grandson.

Murry is a highly principled, hard working, conscientious, caring individual.
